Hardware Innovators in Africa can now apply for annual ASME Innovation Showcase

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is taking applications from social entrepreneurs focusing on hardware innovations for the 2020 ASME Innovation Showcase.
The yearly ISHOW is a global hardware accelerator open to persons and organizations taking physical products to market that will have a positive social and environmental impact, improving the quality of life around the world.
9 innovators will be invited to New York City for the annual ISHOW Bootcamp to receive an extensive design and engineering review by a panel of experts and a chance to earn a second round of seed grants and consultations.
Participants of ISHOW will get feedback on their idea, communicate with multidisciplinary experts familiar with frontier markets, and gain access to industry best practices. Winners become part of the ISHOW alumni network, an international community of hardware innovators and stakeholders with exclusive access to experts and resources. They receive product exposure, advice, technical insights through ISHOW’s rigorous review methodology, and compete for $500,000 in seed grants, in-kind support, design services, travel stipends, and marketing & business development assets.
Winners share US$500,000 in seed grants, travel stipends, and in-kind and technical support, including a design and engineering review led by industry experts. Nine finalists are chosen for each of the three regional events from hundreds of applications received each year. Finalists will participate in regional events on April 16 in Bengaluru, India, May 6 in Nairobi, Kenya, and June 25 in Washington, D.C., United States, and three winners will be chosen at each event.
Applicants should have an existing model and interest in financial and technical support and access to industry networks that can assist in taking their product to market. Until February 20, applications are open here.
